Head Baseball Coach - North Campus
PRIMARY FUNCTION: The major responsibility of the Head Baseball Coach is to administer a successful intercollegiate baseball program, provide effective leadership and team building among the coaching staff, be a positive role model for the student-athletes, and encourage outstanding performance in the classroom and on the field. Must demonstrate problem-solving and priority-setting and model a culture of hard work, dedication, sportsmanship, commitment to academic success, and respect for the coaches and the team to create a positive and cohesive environment where players work together, trust each other, and strive for success in and out of the classroom. Develop junior college student-athletes for the next step in their academic and professional journey.
REPORTS TO: Vice Chancellor, Strategic Initiatives
SUPERVISES: Athletic Trainer, Assistant Baseball Coaches, volunteer coaches, administrative staff
Essential Job Functions:
- Head coaching responsibilities for intercollegiate baseball and serve as transfer facilitator for student-athletes to four-year universities.
- Conduct the operation and management of the baseball program per SJC, Region XIV, and NJCAA rules, regulations, and policies.
- Commit to meeting the educational goals of SJC students in an environment that promotes intellectual growth and develops human potential.
- Exhibit the highest degree of professionalism, integrity, and respect when interacting with students, peers, employees, administration, and the public.
- Observe proper and appropriate channels of communication, enforce the policies and procedures of the College and the College Foundation, and support and improve College programs.
- Administer the departmental budget, including operating budget and scholarships.
- Oversee the management of housing and meal allowances for students on athletic scholarships. Ensure the safety and well-being of the student-athletes during emergencies or weather-related events.
- Develop and maintain relationships with the coaching staff and scouts from regional school districts, community colleges, universities, and professional leagues.
- Facilitate transfers and scholarships to universities.
- Oversee and participate in recruiting athletes
- Schedule games, recruiting, public relations, departmental fundraising, and summer camps.
Additional Job Functions:
- Work collaboratively with personnel across the College to maintain, manage, and promote the program, facilities, and fund-raising efforts. Organize fundraising and participate with the SJC Foundation in fundraising events.

- Knowledge of NJCAA rules and regulations pertaining to baseball
Required Education:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
Preferred Education:
- Master's degree from an accredited institution.
Required Experience:
- Minimum of six (6) years of collegiate coaching experience
- Accrued history of progressive leadership and successful coaching experience.
- Experience in preparing game schedules, coordinating all practices, game plans, travel arrangements, etc.
Preferred Experience:
- Player experience in collegiate or professional baseball
Note: The duties of this position require a physical presence at the assigned on-site work location during unrestricted operations with very limited or no opportunity for remote work arrangements.
Salary Grade: 201
Salary is based on the Board-approved salary schedule for the current fiscal year.
