As a project engineer, the candidate will be responsible for managing complex, multi-discipline digital engineering implementations (both internal and subcontracted). May be assigned to support a specific Weapon Program for all of its digital engineering needs, including leading projects and/or matrixed to a single or multiple project manager(s) for the engineering effort. Ensures the Engineering organization's performance of the established scope of work and directs development and execution of a project/task technical work scope within budget and schedule. Approves all digital engineering deliverables and ensures that all technical requirements are considered and incorporated and that the technology is inserted during the appropriate phase of the Program for adoption and benefit.
The scope of projects that you will be expected to lead will focus on Digital Transformation efforts that are currently underway or planned for Pantex Mission Engineering. As the lead of Digital Transformation for Pantex Mission Engineering, you would apply System Engineering and Business Process Architecture concepts to develop solutions through cross-functional teams to solve complex engineering problems. Examples include implementing solutions that would migrate paper-based processes and design artifacts to electronic work-flows, strengthen configuration management, and leverage electronic, data-driven solutions to improve data-sharing with counterparts across the nuclear weapons complex and increase our ability to aggregate data and perform tracking/trending to monitor and address system health issues. You should expect to interface with professionals from all Departments within Pantex Mission Engineering, Program Integration, Production/Operations, IS&S, etc. Your interfaces with IS&S will help to maintain, streamline, and standardize requirements for software and hardware solutions ultimately strengthening the IT infrastructure for Mission Engineering at Pantex. You should also expect to engage complex-wide initiatives that are ongoing related to the Digital Transformation of the Nuclear Weapons Complex.
Bachelor's degree in engineering/physical science discipline from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET. Plusa minimum of 7 years of relevant experience and a 3.0/4.0 cumulative GPA OR a Master's degree in engineering/physical science discipline with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience and a 3.3/4 cumulative GPA OR a PhD in engineering/physical science discipline with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience and a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
There is a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) requirement up to 4 years post-graduation at time of offer and confirmed by transcript. Beyond four years from graduation, engineering experience will supersede GPA as a requirement for hire.
In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years job-related and at least 1 year nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. Typical experience could range from five to fifteen plus years.
