Position Description
Provides professional and technical assistance regarding poison information and potential poisoning exposures.

Major/Essential Functions
This position is on-site only. A remote schedule will not be available.

This position will perform telephone triage for poison-related calls from both the public and health care providers/hospitals and provide treatment recommendations consistent with current guidelines and medical evidence. Initial one-on-one training will be provided for the first 6-12 weeks during the day/evening shift, after which the position will transition to evening/night shift. After roughly one year of service (depending on call volume), this team member may qualify to sit for the certification exam for Specialists in Poison Information. Once this credential is obtained, remote work becomes an option.

* Receives calls related to potential poisonings and obtains an accurate history of exposure.
* Calculates patient's level of exposure and determines if patient is in range of toxicity using appropriate formulas.
* Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates an age appropriate plan of care utilizing approved poison center protocols and the Micromedex healthcare series software package.
* Communicates treatment information to healthcare professionals or the general public seeking poison center services.
* Provides information regarding identity and treatment of toxins and drugs to all healthcare personnel.
* Conducts/follow up calls in accordance with established policy and procedure.
* Documents collected information in an on-line database.

Required Qualifications
+Education:+ Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program. +Licenses/Certifications:+ Certification or eligible for certification as a Specialist in Poison Information from the American Association of Poison Control Centers.
