What You'll Do

This Deputy to the Vice President position is a strategic hire with growth potential. The Consolidated Nuclear Security (CNS) Mission Engineering (ME) Vice President is the technical authority for all CNS operations. CNS is a nuclear manufacturing LLC with a total workforce of over 11,000 employees, and Mission Engineering has over 1,800 employees across two production plants Pantex in Amarillo, TX and Y-12 in Oak Ridge, TN. This position reports to the Vice President of Mission Engineering and the Vice President reports to the Chief Operating Officer and the Chief Executive Officer.

This Deputy is a Senior Director position and serves as a senior leader in the ME organization. The position is accountable to the Vice President, Mission Engineering for the performance of the 1,800+ individuals within the Mission Engineering organization. The position is responsible for the execution of highly technical engineering functions that comprise the largest majority of the engineering work at both sites. Work may include components of Mechanical, Electrical, Process, Nuclear, Chemical, Structural, Systems, and Design engineering work and expertise. These components will be leveraged to develop complex work through cross-functional teams in order to solve challenging engineering problems encountered throughout the two highly-regulated sites. The Deputy Vice President develops strategic plans to achieve execution of all mission and business milestones. This position maintains a presence at both Pantex and Y-12. The Deputy VP position will be integral to the planning for future Mission Engineering expansion and growth with a focus on Organizational Development and Continuous Improvement. The position will represent the division to the Executive Leadership Team as well as the National Nuclear Security Administration customers.

Mission Engineering is comprised of the following organizations across both Pantex and Y-12 sites: Development, Engineering Technical Authority, Engineering Technical Operations, Nuclear Safety Engineering, Projects Engineering, Pantex Engineering, Reliability Engineering, UPF Engineering Oversight and Authorization, and Y-12 Engineering. These organizations represent the technical authority over all aspects of work at both sites, and provide resources to major operational groups focused on product lifecycle from process development through direct mission work as well as major project realization.

The deputy will be responsible for the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Production Office (NPO) and NNSA customer interface, including weekly reporting and briefings. They will also serve as Action Officer when needed to address emerging issues that require Senior Director Leadership that need resolution in a timely manner. Finally, they will provide temporary assistance to tiered organizations as necessary.

Minimum Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree: Minimum 15 years relevant experience. Minimum 5years of management experience.
  • In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related science and 4 years nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. Preferred Job Requirements

  • The successful applicant must show competencies that they can be ready to perform at the Vice President level.
  • The candidate should have demonstrated experience in managing a large organization of 300+ employees across multiple spans (2+), layers (2+) as well as simultaneous multi-site accountability.
  • The candidate must have at least 5 years of management experience, however, 15+ years of experience is preferable.
  • Experience in a highly regulated high consequence production industry such as nuclear reactor, nuclear weapon or aerospace.
  • Experience in delivering products to the Department of Energy and/or the Department of Defense.
  • Experience with the Defense Nuclear Weapons Facility Safety Board is preferred.

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
