EnergyVenture Summer Camp Lead Instructor

Provide professional instruction for Continuing & Professional Development (CPD) classes offered at off-site school locations through San Jacinto College as well as its Central, North, and/or South campuses. Applications for part-time, full-time faculty positions are accepted on a continuous basis and reviewed if openings become available. Instructors will be employed as part-time faculty (full-time during the summer) are not entitled to all the rights, privileges, and benefits of regular, full-time employees. Part-time faculty are hired on an "as needed" basis and will work for the duration of time specified by the respective course.


Chief Responsibilities:

  • Providing instruction to middle school aged students for a weeklong youth camp on campus at San Jacinto College with curriculum focused on STEM concepts and how they are used in careers that are associated with the energy industry (Process technology, engineering, and geology).
  • Implementing the daily lesson plans already developed allowing the campers the opportunity to express themselves creatively.
  • Providing supervision and leadership in the classroom for campers ensuring that the students are engaged and are completing their projects throughout the week.
  • Addressing student behavior issues if they occur in the classroom, or in the science labs following the camp's disciplinary actions that are stated in the camp's, Code of Conduct for Campers.
  • Supervising the students during a weekly field trip to a Houston corporate energy-related production facility.
  • Attending pre-camp training sessions to become familiar with the curriculum and completing all required college/State of Texas training modules that are required when working in a classroom with children.

Required Qualifications:

  • At least three (3) years of experience teaching a STEM related subject to a youth audience
  • At least (3) years of experience working in an Independent School District, private K-12 school or experience working with youth in an educational setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field

Hourly rate is based on the Board-approved rate schedule for the current fiscal year.
