Salary Range: $40,000 - $45,000 annually

SUMMARY:

The Coordinator of Outdoor Adventure will assist the Assistant Director of Outdoor Adventure in running a comprehensive Outdoor Adventure Program. The coordinator will directly oversees the Outdoor Adventure student staff, the gear center, TAMUC trail, and trip programs.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead, develop, implement, and evaluate outdoor recreation activities including workshops, and outdoor trips programs, ensuring that risk management and Campus Rec policies are being followed.
  • Maintain and operate a fully equipped gear center along with the 4-mile mountain biking/hiking TAMUC trail including gear management, point of sale systems, trail building and maintenance, and monthly gear inspection
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, evaluate, and develop all outdoor student staff
  • Assist in facilitating and maintaining the Outdoor Adventure Challenge Course including both high and low elements as well as games and initiatives designed to promote teamwork, leadership, and communication within a team
  • Assist with the development and implementation of long-term and short-term Outdoor Adventure program goals
  • Assist with the day-to-day operations and management of an indoor climbing facility
  • Assist with the budget, purchases, inventory, and maintenance of equipment used to run the Outdoor Adventure Program
  • Develop new programs for campus and the wider Texas A&M University-Commerce community
  • Assist with events and programs Campus Recreation and the division of Student Engagement enact as needed
  • Assist with all other areas of the Outdoor Adventure program as needed
  • Must be able to obtain within the first 6 months of employment a CPR/AED/FA Instructor certification, as provided by Campus Recreation.
  • Must be able to obtain within the first 6 months of employment a Wilderness First Responder certification, as provided by Campus Recreation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree with the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Two (2) years' experience in outdoor programming in a formal outdoor program (graduate assistantships, undergraduate, and internships are acceptable for considering full-time equivalencies to meet minimum years' experience)
  • Ability to: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to move around on uneven terrain, ability to work in outdoor weather conditions, ability to ascend, descend, and traverse climbing walls and challenge course, ability to lead, organize, and oversee outdoor trips

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

  • Master's degree in Recreation, Kinesiology and Sport Management, Outdoor Recreation, or related field
  • Bilingual fluency (Spanish and English written and oral)
  • CPR/AED/FA Instructor certification
  • Wilderness First Responder certification
  • Other Outdoor Education related certifications (ACA, AMGA, PCI, UBI)
