Our Growing Forward strategy calls for investing more than $6 billion in Michigan over the next five years. That includes significant investments in energy efficiency, renewable energy, environmental and customer service enhancements, and new power generation.
 

The investments make Consumers Energy one of the largest investors in Michigan and will help the utility maintain and improve service to customers, create jobs, boost the state’s economy and expand the state’s tax base.


Consumers Energy is Michigan’s second-largest electric and natural gas utility, providing service to more than 6 million of the state’s 10 million residents in all 68 counties in the Lower Peninsula. Consumers Energy is the principal subsidiary of Jackson-based CMS Energy Corporation. The Company’s name was changed from Consumers Power to Consumers Energy in 1997.


Consumers Energy provides natural gas service for heating and other uses to more than 1.7 million customers in 44 of the 68 counties in Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. It serves an area that includes 215 cities and villages. Among the principal cities served are Bay City, Flint, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Lansing, Macomb, Midland, Royal Oak, Saginaw and Warren.
