Overcoming Challenges & Having It All
Share
Often, when we often talk about overcoming challenges what we really mean is that we are seeking a work-life balance. Finding that balance between family and career, especially as an entrepreneur isn’t an easy task. Sheryl Sandberg says in her book, Lean In, that women face complex challenges... adjustments or differences that we can make ourselves to increase our self-confidence (sit at the table with the big boys), getting our partners to do more at home (make your partner a real partner), and not hold ourselves to unattainable standards (the myth of doing it all) (2013).

Like Sheryl Sandberg, I too often try to do it all. And I’ve finally realized that in order to have it all, we need to request and accept the help of others. My husband accepted a job transfer, and we will relocate us from Northeastern Pennsylvania to Southern California; I will be undergoing surgery and will need six to eight weeks’ recovery; and, I will continue to run my speaking and couching business, albeit from my recovery couch! That’s a lot. In order to make it through, I will be relying on the help and support of my life partner and other friends and family.

Without support, from my husband in particular, the magnitude of change and adversity of this situation could definitely make me complacent and “stuck”! For these events to happen, my husband and I need to be on the same page – life partners. Of course his career is important, and mine is equally important.

I wrote this message December 2013. Exactly one year later my life has changed in a positive way. I am now living in Southern California, a global motivational speaker, best-selling author; and master coach-helping experts worldwide engage and achieve more. I’ve touched corporate executives to entrepreneurs. It’s the end of 2014 and as each year I evaluate my business removing the bottom 20%, add one new program and continue to brand my programs and the business. Connie Pheiff, #Queen of the Ask is still trying to do it all ~ it’s all good.

I hope you have the people in your life that you can count on to help you through those bumps in the road. Sometimes, it’s a spouse or a life partner – but it does not necessarily have to be. The support often comes from a business partner or a business coach.

You can do it too. Take one step at a time, creating a realistic road map. Staying on track is easier when you have identified your purpose and have a plan to stay focused on the big picture. The bumps in the road will get smaller, less challenging, and you will be able to get unstuck and accelerate your life.

That’s all. Wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday season.
